We couldn’t be happier with the warm roof installation on our conservatory! The team was professional, punctual, and worked with great care and attention to detail. The transformation is incredible — the space now feels cooler in summer, and looks fantastic inside and out. Everything was left spotless, and the quality of the finish is outstanding.

Insulating the roof is the part that works
Most of the heat a conservatory loses goes straight up, and most of the heat it gains in summer comes the same way. Insulating above the room is what changes the temperature. Everything else is a way of living with the problem.

Why the roof, and not the glazing
A conservatory is mostly glass on every side, so it is reasonable to assume the windows are the problem. They are part of it. But warm air rises, and the roof is where it leaves. In summer the same roof works in reverse, letting sun straight in and holding the heat under it.
The roof is also the only one of those surfaces you can fix without touching the frame, the windows or the doors. That is why replacing it is the intervention that changes the room, and replacing the glazing usually is not.
Three ways people insulate a conservatory roof
Only one of them is a permanent fix, and we would rather be straight about that.
Foil and board panels
›Insulation clipped under the existing polycarbonate. Cheap, quick, and it leaves the old cold roof exactly where it was. It takes the edge off and it is not a roof.
An internal ceiling
›A suspended ceiling built under the glass. Better than nothing, but the cold surface is still above it, and moisture that reaches the gap has nowhere to go.
Replacing the roof
›Insulation built into a new structure with tiles over it. The old roof leaves the site and the insulation sits where it should be rather than underneath a problem.

Where the insulation actually sits
In the roof we fit, insulation goes above the room and below the tiles, inside the timber structure. A breathable membrane sits over it so moisture can leave rather than collect.
That position is the whole point. Insulation added underneath an existing cold roof leaves the cold surface in place with warm, moist air still reaching it, which is precisely how you get condensation running down the inside of a conservatory in January. Building the insulation into the roof removes the cold surface instead of hiding it.
So will it stop the condensation?
Condensation appears when warm, moist air meets a cold surface. In a conservatory with a polycarbonate or glass roof, that surface is directly above your head, which is why people find water running down the inside in winter and assume the roof is leaking.
Putting insulation above the room and keeping the structure warm removes the cold surface, and in most conservatories that ends it. Where a room carries a lot of moisture, from drying washing or a hot tub, ventilation still matters, and we will say so rather than pretend a roof solves everything.

What sits above the room once the insulation and tiles are on.
Benefits of conservatory roof insulation
What people notice afterwards, in roughly the order they mention it to us.
The temperature settles
It stops tracking the weather outside. That is the whole point of insulating a roof, and it is the thing people say first.
Heating reaches further
Whatever you use to warm the room is no longer competing with heat leaving through the roof above it.
The noise goes
Rain on polycarbonate is loud. Insulation and tiles take almost all of it away, and people notice that within a week.
The glare goes
No more washed-out television in the afternoon, and no more moving the furniture out of the sun.
We were delighted to find Warm Roof Conservatory LTD who use traditional insulated wooden frames and managed to match the tiling to the existing house. With the use of velux windows and glass side panels we have lost very little light and gained an insulated watertight room usable year round.
Rosalind McDonnellExcellent service!! Tradesmen arrived and didn't stop until complete. Highly reccommend and I now have a room that I can use all year round. Very happy customer, thank you. 🙂
Charlotte HeywoodWarm roof Conservatory excellent company. I would recommend this company to anyone, excellent service and product. The 3 tradesmen that came worked from arrival at 8.30am to 6pm none stop making sure everything was removed and cleaned. First class job the conservatory is totally transformed warmer and looks great.
Michael BirchQuestions about insulation
Can you insulate my roof without replacing it?
There are products that clip under an existing roof and they do take the edge off. They do not turn a cold roof into a warm one, and they leave the polycarbonate above them. We fit replacement roofs rather than under-panels, and we would rather say so plainly than sell you something that half works.
What insulation do you use?
Rigid insulation built into the roof structure, specified for the roof it is going on. We will tell you exactly what is going into yours at the survey rather than after.
Does it help in summer as well as winter?
Yes, and for a lot of people that is the bigger change. Insulation slows heat moving in both directions, so the room stops overheating in July as well as stops emptying of warmth in January.
Will the room still feel like a conservatory?
Nothing about the frame, the doors or the glazing changes, so you keep the room you have and the light that comes with it. What you lose is the temperature swing.
Cold in winter, unusable in summer?
Tell us what the room does now and we will tell you what would change. Leave a name and a number and one of us will call you back.
