Warm roof Conservatory excellent company. I would recommend this company to anyone, excellent service and product. The 3 tradesmen that came worked from arrival at 8.30am to 6pm none stop making sure everything was removed and cleaned. First class job the conservatory is totally transformed warmer and looks great.

A warm roof is insulation you can sit under
The name describes where the insulation goes, not how the room feels. Put it above the room instead of nowhere at all and the conservatory stops following the weather. Everything else on this page follows from that one move.

Cold roof, warm roof
A cold roof lets heat pass straight through it. Polycarbonate and glass are cold roofs: they give up warmth in winter and take it on in summer, which is the whole reason a conservatory swings between unusable and unbearable.
A warm roof puts insulation above the room and keeps the structure on the warm side of it. The heat you have paid for stays where you are sitting, and the surface above your head is no longer cold enough for condensation to form on it.
A timber frame, insulation, then tiles
The roof is built up in layers on a lightweight timber structure. Insulation sits above the room, a breathable membrane goes over it, then battens and the tiles you chose.
Because the whole build-up is light, it can nearly always sit on the conservatory frame that is already there. That is what keeps this to a few days rather than a rebuild, and it is why the windows, the doors and the brickwork stay exactly where they are.

Benefits of a warm roof conservatory
The frame does not move. The room does.
It holds a temperature
The swing between October and June flattens out. The room stops being somewhere you check the weather before using.
It costs less to heat
Heat stops leaving through the roof, so whatever you were spending to warm that space goes further.
The noise stops
Rain on polycarbonate is loud enough to talk over. A tiled roof takes that away almost entirely.
No more glare
Direct sun through a plastic or glass roof washes out a television and bleaches furniture. A solid roof ends it.
It looks like the house
Tiles chosen against the main roof read as an extension rather than something bolted on the back.
You can finish it inside
A solid roof gives you a ceiling. Plastered and lit, the room stops being a conservatory at all.
What should be checked before installing a warm roof?
A warm roof is only as sound as the frame it sits on, so the structure underneath is checked before anything goes on top of it.
- Make sure the existing frame is level, stable and not leaning.
- Check for any signs of movement, cracks or historic structural stress.
- Ensure existing seals and joints are intact and in good condition.
- Check older corners and angles for areas that may need additional reinforcement.
- Assess whether additional supports are needed, which can be sleeved in white PVC to blend with the existing frame.
- Confirm that the existing structure can safely support the weight of the new warm roof.
When a warm roof is not the answer
If the frame or the base is in poor condition, putting a new roof on top of it is money in the wrong place. We will say so when we look at it rather than after we have started.
If all you want is to stop two cracked polycarbonate panels leaking, a warm roof is more than the job needs. And if you are after a room that is legally part of the house, with building control sign-off and a full ceiling, that is a conversion rather than a roof replacement.

The finished surface: lightweight tiles over the insulation, not glass.
Against what you have now
The three roofs we are usually called out to replace.
Polycarbonate
›Cheap to build and the worst of the three to live under. Loud in rain, cold in winter, hot in summer, and it discolours.
Glass
›Better looking and quieter than plastic. Still a cold roof, still glare, and still a room that follows the weather.
An older solid roof
›Some early solid roofs went on with little or no insulation. Replacing the build-up is what makes the difference.
Excellent service!! Tradesmen arrived and didn't stop until complete. Highly reccommend and I now have a room that I can use all year round. Very happy customer, thank you. 🙂
Charlotte HeywoodWe couldn’t be happier with the warm roof installation on our conservatory! The team was professional, punctual, and worked with great care and attention to detail. The transformation is incredible — the space now feels cooler in summer, and looks fantastic inside and out. Everything was left spotless, and the quality of the finish is outstanding.
Grzegorz ZExcellent work men ,they worked through some horrendous weather, would highly recommend Sheffield
MarieQuestions about warm roofs
Do I need planning permission for a warm roof?
In most cases no, because replacing a conservatory roof is usually treated as replacement rather than a new structure. It depends on your property and what you are changing, so we will tell you what applies to yours when we come out.
Will it make the conservatory dark?
It changes the light rather than removing it. Most of the daylight in a conservatory comes through the glazing around you, not the roof above you. Where you want light kept overhead, skylights are built in where you ask for them.
Can my existing frame take one?
Nearly always, because the system is light. What we check is the condition of the frame and the base rather than the strength alone. If it will not take a roof safely we will tell you that instead of fitting one.
How long does it take?
Two to three days on site for most conservatories. Larger or more complicated shapes take longer, and a plastered ceiling adds time for drying.
Not sure which roof you have?
Tell us what is above you now and we will tell you what replacing it involves. Leave a name and a number and one of us will ring you back.
